A two week trip became a four month visit when the airport officials in Eilat, Israel, refused to allow the Shalit family to make the flight back to the States. Why? Because they thought Tarlan was too far along in her pregnancy to travel safely on such a lengthy plane ride. She had already been cleared by her physician but was carrying much larger than a woman of 5 months often did. And so, four months after their expected departure, Leah made her entrance into the world. She was greeted by the extended family that had welcomed her mother, father, and older brother while they endured the long layover. They stayed for another three weeks before finally making the journey back to Connecticut, where the family had long called home.
Even though she was born in Israel, Leah was legally a United States citizen. She grew up in the small town of Mystic, Connecticut. Yes ... the Mystic from the movie 'Mystic Pizza.' There weren't many Jewish families in the town and there were even less people of Arabic descent. Still, the world she lived in was accepting. Everyone knew everyone else. Her parents could count on the neighbors to keep an eye on her and her two siblings if they were outside playing. The minister at the local Methodist church coached softball and kept his God in his back pocket when he shouted from the dugout. The cafeteria lady at their elementary school ran the Girl Scouts program that Leah only stayed in for about two years and only because she really liked the cookies. They skipped rocks in the water down by the dock. They ran up and down the streets at all hours of the night. It was a simple little town and the perfect place for someone like Leah to grow up in.
Being part of a different culture allowed her an outside perspective that sparked her creativity at an early age. She was always writing stories, of both fiction and non. In high school, she participated in sports as well as writing for the school's paper. She tried to be as diverse as possible, leaving room for new experiences. That was one of her biggest passions, trying something new. Her father always said she was fearless, from the minute she entered the world all wide-eyed and laughing. She was ready to take anything on. That gave her the incentive to branch out, to apply for schools away from home, to make new friends and visit new places.
When Leah got into Northwestern, she was ecstatic. The Chicago University had one of the best journalism programs in the country. They also had a study abroad program that would allow her to travel to other countries and work for news programs around the globe. It was a dream come true and it became her life for the next six years as she studied and dedicated her time to project after project. The Global journalism program enabled her to return to Israel for a short time. It also placed her in Rome where she immersed herself in the culture.
After graduation, Leah picked up a few odd jobs for different magazines. She submitted a few articles to the Chicago Tribune and the New York Times. She worked as a field reporter, picking up leads for a news station in Chicago and writing the pieces for their anchors to read on camera. But she didn't find that as fulfilling as being in the middle of it all, of writing her opinions along with the facts. So that's what she did. She started just writing about things that she loved, about sports teams and hobbies she enjoyed, about places she liked to visit and bands she wanted to hear live. She traveled the world, meeting new people and interviewing them. She submitted piece after piece, and published more than most her age only two years out of school
In the process of her exploration, Leah found a new passion in helping those in need. She worked with countless charities to bring publicity to their events. She worked with disaster relief programs and donated endless hours to clean up and rebuilding. She spent almost an entire year in Haiti after the 7.0 earthquake devastated the population, helping the Red Cross get the word out while, and doing everything she could to help where she could. Since then, she's worked with multiple global builds hosted by Habitat for Humanity and has even considered joining the Peace Corps.
Her work takes her everywhere, which is something that she loves. But for the last few years, she's called Los Angeles home. She had settled there in 2012, shortly after returning from Haiti with one of the other volunteers. The two of them had hit it off, started a romance overseas. Leah thought it was one for the books. But everything was different when they were back in the states, when they weren't immersed in the hardships of those around them and time was a little more freely spent. The relationship was stale. They had nothing in common, really. He wasn't the person she thought he was. There was no broken heart but definitely collateral damage. She had expected this huge whirlwind romance and wound up with emotional scars that she's still trying to process to this day, scars that kept her from pursuing the things she wanted for a very long time.
Despite all of that, she stayed in LA for a few more years. Her love for travel kept her away from her small loft apartment more than not but it was the only place she'd really ever considered home. But even that couldn't keep her, ever the nomad. She'd bounced from LA to New Orleans before the West Coast called her back to San Francisco. There, she reconnected with a man who had come into her life at possibly the worst time. She was broken and unable to commit to what he clearly had to offer. But their story was far from over. Tension, miscommunication, and a couple of moments where they'd let their bodies do all the talking, resulted in a pregnancy. Everything in the world kept getting in their way even with a baby slowly growing inside her belly. Another woman on his side, another man on hers. The fear of taking the chance she should have taken before New Orleans, before disappearing on him without a word. But it took his telling her he was moving away, too far for her heart to handle, for her to finally realize what she was risking losing. So now, it was time to start a new chapter -- work on piecing things back together, being a family, and making a home somewhere new.

ENFJ-A (myers-briggs)
"The Protagonist" Warm, empathetic, responsive, and responsible. Highly attuned to the emotions, needs, and motivations of others. Libra (zodiac)
It's the Scales that symbolize Libra, and just like that balancing mechanism wants to stay even, Libras want to be on an even keel. Think of the Scales of Justice and how they work at striking the right balance. Likewise, Libras are objective, just and want to do what's best for everyone. It's possible, though, that this penchant for fairness is for a different reason: Libras abhor conflict. The scales study every possible angle in the hopes of achieving peace and harmony, so much so that others may see them as fickle and indecisive. If that's what it takes to avoid a confrontation, that's fine with the Scales. The Libra-born are keen strategists, organizing groups with poise and getting the job done (in keeping with the Cardinal Quality assigned to this sign). Further, you can expect the Scales to be companionable, sociable folks.
The great strength of the Libra-born is their quest for fairness, peace and harmony. That the Scales are the great diplomats of the zodiac further helps their case. A beautiful journey this will be, thanks to the Libra's inimitable sense of style. (x)
